St Andrews Prize for the Environment winner announced

The 2011 St Andrews Prize for the Environment of $75,000 was presented to Jonathan den Hartog, of BioLite, for an innovative cookstove, which reduces emissions by up to 95% and provides electricity for charging small appliances in rural areas. Two runners up each received $25,000. The St Andrews Prize is an environmental initiative by the University of St Andrews and ConocoPhillips. Low-carbon conference attendance

University of St Andrews academic, Prof. J. Bebbington, put sustainable development into practice when she filmed her keynote speech to the 2010 APIRA Conference in Sydney this summer rather than fly to Australia, thus saving over 3 tonnes of CO2 emissions.
